KATHARINA WIESE ART

 About me

KATHARINA WIESE

Born 1957, is a freelance artist living and working in Hannover, Germany, she is married and has an adult son.

She acquired a BA in Art Education, Leibniz Universität Hannover (including teacher training qualifications).

Then 34 years of working for CONDOR and LUFTHANSA followed.

Since 2005 continuing the artistic training, attending workshops with many different artists at home and abroad, learning a variety of artistic techniques.

I would like to particularly emphasize my art teacher, American artist Nicholas Wilton, who provided me with crucial new impulses at the beginning of the corona pandemic during the 12-week online workshop Art2Life – Creative Visionary Program. This gave me the necessary self-confidence to do my first solo exhibition.

HOW I WORK

I’m inspired by colors, shapes, lines and surfaces both in nature and in urban environment. For example, a yellow rapeseed field under a clear blue sky or bright orange poppies in front of purple alliums in my garden.

Mostly I’m painting intuitively, usually with acrylic paints on mounted canvas or on paper. Multilayered compositions are created, both abstract and abstract figurative. I often integrate collage elements and combine acrylic paint with other mediums, such as oil pastels, ink, charcoal, colored pencils or spray paint.

I start a painting without knowing what the final result will be like. First, without thinking too much, I apply any color to the canvas, a playful, free creating at the beginning of the painting process. Ideas arise during work and the painting develops layer by layer.

Through application and partial removal of paint some of the details from underlying layers show through and become visible. In this way depth is created in the painting. I am combining bright and matt colors, different shapes, lightness and darkness until the painting feels balanced and finished.
